The upper plate, side plates and lower plate on Volvo excavators are up to 1⁄4-inch thicker and covered by our Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty. Competitors typically use thinner steel plates supported by only a 3-to 12-month warranty.

Our X-style chassis has robotically welded, single-piece upper and lower plates that are also covered by our Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty. Heavy-duty guard plates offer protection under the superstructure and X-frame. Some competitors feature an undercarriage with the upper plate split at a key stress point, or a straight plate welded on one side only with no plate belly guard under the hydraulic swivel. And with warranties ranging from 3 to 12 months, maintenance costs could add up quickly.

The track motor cover on Volvo excavators features a full recessed area to protect bolt heads. Many competitors leave bolt heads exposed, increasing the likelihood of damage.

Volvo excavator arm ends feature hardened steel plates for less wear, and they can easily be replaced by removing four countersunk screws. Competitor plates oftentimes have to be cut off and rebuilt once worn out.

The reinforced idler frame on Volvo excavators increases durability on rough terrain. Most competitors don’t offer idler frame reinforcement.

Volvo harnesses are high-quality, coated and waterproof. Many competitors have a lower-quality, uncoated, non-waterproof harness.

For added safety and durability, excavators can be ordered with optional FOG (Falling Object Guard) and FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) cabs to provide peace-of-mind for working in tough applications. EC220EL models and up can also be fitted with a full length track guard for added protection.
