Versatile and quiet 15-tonne electric wheel loader

The 15-tonne L90 Electric is the first electric wheel loader of its class. With a lifting capacity of 4.5 tonnes, it is a cleaner and quieter solution with the power to match the demands of a wide range of applications. The zero exhaust emissions solution is perfectly suited for indoor operation and city centers, as well as segments such as industrial material handling, forestry, agriculture and landscaping, quarries and mining, and waste and recycling. Thanks to energy savings, a cut in transport costs and reduced maintenance requirements, the L90 Electric boasts a lower operating cost. Customers can also expect more productivity with a faster response and cycle time.

A cleaner, smarter choice

With the L90 Electric wheel loader it is now easier to access jobsites with low carbon and low noise requirements, operate indoors without needing costly fume extraction systems or spark arrestors, and work outside of standard hours. Furthermore, the electric machine provides you with a 60-80% energy cost reduction and 30% less maintenance requirements.

With the L90 Electric, you can enjoy the same, or better, power and performance as a conventional L90H model, plus faster response and shorter cycle times. This is thanks to a number of efficiency-boosting features.

A powerful performance

Efficiency-boosting features include dedicated electric motors for propulsion and hydraulics, enabling full available power to both systems and an increased ease of operation. A Volvo-designed transmission provides a seamless integration of components resulting in high energy efficiency, while the dual thermal control system secures optimal temperature, efficiency and a good lifetime of components. The L90 Electric benefits from an active cooling and heating of high voltage batteries, and a passive cooling of electrical motors, transmission and hydraulic oil. And the renowned Torque Parallel linkage ensures parallel movements and a balanced breakout force, providing outstanding versatility and visibility.

Deliver 4-5 hours of operation in medium duty applications – or a full working day in lighter applications – supported by a number of AC and DC charging options.

Runtime and charging

An integrated onboard 22 kW AC charger powers up the machine from 0 to 100% overnight in 6-7 hours, while a range of off-board chargers provide faster charging. They include the 150kW DC charger which charges from 0 to 100% in just one hour and 10 minutes, and the 40kW DC moveable charger. The PU500 Mobile Power Unit is available to help fully charge in one hour and 10 minutes. And a CCS2 charging interface/Type 2 automotive standard inlet enables easy access to common chargers. Finally, the addition of the My Equipment digital tool ensures your machine is ready for action with valuable insights into battery status, machine hours and geographic location.

An added benefit of the zero exhaust emission L90 Electric wheel loader is that its electrical drive motor recuperates energy by acting as a generator when decelerating.

Energy recovery function

The reuse of braking energy helps to charge the battery and prolong your runtime. It also ensures decreased brake wear and the reduced need of axle oil cooling.

The fully electric driveline reduces maintenance time and costs by 30%, increasing profits. This is thanks to a range of beneficial features.

Lower costs and maintenance

No engine-related consumables, maintenance-free electric motors and a 4,000 hour oil change interval help cut maintenance time and costs. Ground-level service access and the benefit of having the hood opening at the push of a button, and radiators swinging out, ensures swift maintenance and servicing.

A more comfortable work environment is guaranteed thanks to less noise and vibrations provided by the wheel loader’s electric operation. A quieter jobsite facilitates communication and reduces fatigue.

Premium operator comfort

These improved conditions are also due to a more instantaneous response and an ergonomic workspace, with no controls situated higher than the shoulders. An intuitive touchscreen is included with integrated rear view camera and the option to include Volvo Co-Pilot and a range of Load Assist applications such as On-Board Weighing, Operator Coaching and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The L90 Electric also enjoys all the features and benefits from the conventional model, including electro-hydraulic lever controls for smooth control and less heat in the cab, an auto bucket leveling function, the optional Comfort Drive Control and Rimpull Control.
