For the last 80 years, Stena Recycling has taken great strides in making Sweden the posterchild of recycling on a global scale. And their commitment to a better world starts from within. Their strategy to replace some of their diesel machines with Volvo CE electric machines, is a game changer when it comes to cutting emissions and increasing efficiency.
Leading this change is Marika Björnum, who heads purchasing at Stena Recycling. According to Marika, the use of the electric machines is win-win for multiple reasons. Ranging from reduced fuel costs, increased efficiency, zero emissions, reduced vibrations – the Volvo electric machines are not just great for business but for the environment too.
The Volvo ECR25 Electric at their industrial plastic recycling facility has been working non-stop for over 4000 hours, taking breaks only for quick charges - moving over 20 tonnes of recycled material daily. Replacing its diesel predecessor, it reduces 83% in energy costs and cuts CO2 emissions by about 21 tonnes every year. The compact design, nearly silent operation, and the fact that it’s emission-free makes it the perfect choice for carrying out work indoors at the facility.
