Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has used its international press conference at the bauma Munich 2016 exhibition to underscore how the company remains committed to being a customer-focused global player – confidently unveiling some of the most ambitious new product introductions in a decade. This includes the largest excavator and articulated hauler the company has produced, as well as an advanced suite of machine control systems and technology alliances.
Mr. Weissburg concentrated his presentation, held on April 12th at the Messe Munchen trade fair centre, on discussing global market developments and the highlights of the company’s participation at bauma 2016. He also discussed the changing customer requirements of the industry and the growth in the value segment. Volvo CE is now in a ‘confident position to deliver compelling products to targeted customer groups at different performance points, via its construction equipment brands’, he said.
The speech contained details of how Volvo CE is responding to the industry’s growing preference for higher capacity products in the general purpose machine segment, launching its largest ever excavator and articulated hauler, the 90 tonne EC950E and 60 tonne A60H, respectively. At the other end of the product spectrum Mr. Weissburg said that Volvo CE was responding to the long term global growth of the compact machine segment with a host of new products, including the bauma-launched L45H wheel loader and EC35D compact excavator. The president also renewed Volvo CE’s commitment to providing a competitive offering in the road segment, evidenced by the launch at the show of the P4820D paver and SD135B soil compactor.
“Volvo CE is changing and responding to tough and changing market conditions,” commented Mr. Weissburg. “ We are focusing our investments on products and solutions where we can add real value to our customers and where there is future growth.
“With our strong product line up we are well positioned to continue to serve customers in our traditional premium segment, as well as meet the needs of the growing value segment,” he continued. “As always, innovation will drive our thinking and we will continue to be leaders in the fields of integrated offerings, connectivity and electromobility.”
Weissburg closed his presentation by explaining Volvo CE’s new approach to how it offers services and solutions to customers. Under the banner of ‘Volvo Services’ the new method gives greater clarity on both the range of services and solutions offered, and the value they deliver for customers’ operations and businesses. He also unveiled the Co-Pilot secondary onboard services display and advanced ‘Assist’ machine control systems – including Dig Assist, Load Assist and Compact Assist.
Following his presentation, Mr. Weissburg was joined on stage by Björn Ingemanson, president of Volvo Penta and Claes Nilsson, president Volvo Trucks, who each described the highlights of their brands’ respective exhibits.
