For superior compaction, the SD105 single-drum soil compactor from Volvo Construction Equipment packs a powerful punch – combining a heavy drum weight, dual amplitudes and ultra-grade traction control. But even though it’s built to work hard, the soil compactor is full of upgraded features designed to make the job easier, safer and more comfortable, no matter the task.
The newly launched SD105 is now equipped with Volvo cab, replacing the previously fitted Matec cabin for a quiet and more comfortable working environment. The enclosed ROPS/FOPS certified cab provides a commanding view of the forward drum as well as superior rear visibility, making conditions safer for operator and bystander alike. To enhance operator visibility and safety when operating in reverse, the adjustable seat can be rotated 15° to the right and 45° to the left.
The ergonomically designed operator controls and console are optimally positioned for increased comfort and productivity, with easily accessible key functions in close proximity to the controls. To ensure a smooth and precise speed control, the propulsion control lever features integrated vibration activation and an easy-to-find detent. For maximum comfort, the enclosed cab is fitted with a powerful heating and air conditioning system as standard. The enhanced climate control system routes air through vents conveniently located around the operator’s seat to quickly lower or raise the temperature to increase comfort. All of these elements combined with low noise levels provide a safe and comfortable environment, reducing operator fatigue, improving on-site safety and contributing to a more productive working day.
The SD105 single drum soil compactor is the complete package, providing superior compaction and increased versatility. Built for power and productivity with a heavy drum weight and dual amplitudes, the SD105 has dynamic drum forces that allow compacting in thin soil layers and thick alike. With the flip of a switch, the operator can toggle between high and low amplitude for greater precision and superior results. The SD105 is capable of high drum impact forces in both amplitudes, and high centrifugal force and a heavy drum weight combine for superior compaction in fewer passes. As conditions and soil types change, vibration frequency can be easily adjusted from the operator’s console to adapt to new conditions, increasing productivity and performance. Dual frequency is standard; for greater versatility the variable five frequency option can be selected.
Able to work in a variety of tough conditions the SD105 boosts productivity and profitability by providing increased versatility and access to more applications. The machine delivers the power and traction needed to cover all applications and material depths, regardless of the terrain condition. Ultra-grade traction control allows the machine to work on steep inclines, when loading for transport and on slippery surfaces — preventing wheel and drum spin and improving performance, productivity and gradeability. Work on inclines is made possible by a tapered drum frame that allows the machine to tackle slopes of up to 35° as well as increased clearance when loading for transport. A center joint provides +/-38° of articulation and +/-17° of oscillation improves stability and maneuverability. By maintaining continuous drum contact with the ground, the powerful SD105 ensures superior compaction.
To keep uptime up and downtime at a minimum, the SD105 is designed for stress-free maintenance, with easily accessible, conveniently located daily checkpoints and grouped service ports to make hydraulic pressure checks straightforward. The air filter is remotely mounted beneath the engine compartment for convenient daily checks, and hydraulic test ports and filters are grouped in a sealed compartment underneath the cab for quick access. The rear-hinged engine compartment is easily opened, providing unobstructed access to the engine for quick service checks and a forward-tilting cab means hydraulic components are easily reached. For added convenience, the machine can be refueled through the engine hood via a lockable fuel cap, eliminating the need to open the engine compartment.
