When it comes to making a good impression, size makes a big difference. And not only is the Volvo EC80D larger and heavier than its counterparts in the class, it also has high digging forces, fast cycle times and offers excellent fuel economy in applications such as trenching, small-scale excavation, agricultural, landscaping, and road construction. Standing tall at 2.66 meters and measuring an impressive 2.3 meters wide, the newest Volvo excavator is tailored to the Indian market and built to be the largest machine in its class on the market today.
A powerful Volvo D3 four-cylinder engine (44.4 kW/2,100 rpm) is perfectly matched to the hydraulic system, and the EC80D boasts strong fuel efficiency. An automatic idling system reduces engine speed when controls are left inactive for five seconds or the left-hand console is raised. And an rpm control allows the operator to maximize fuel efficiency and machine performance at the flip of a switch.
The EC80D offers excellent working range, as well as better ground clearance, for an overall boost in productivity. Extremely robust, the superstructure features a host of anti-slip plates, steps and handrails to allow safe access to the machine. Because of its larger size, the EC80D can use a bigger bucket than is commonly found in this weight class, further increasing work output. The machine features greased and sealed track chains as standard, with each track powered by an automatic two-speed shift travel motor, thereby maximizing tractive force. The track brakes are multi-disc, and travel motor, brake and planetary gears are all well protected within the track frame.
The durable high-strength tensile steel boom is fixed directly to the superstructure at the side of the cab, improving stability during operation and increasing uptime. The configuration of the boom and arm enables the machine to reach even further and dig to a maximum depth of 4.1 meters, and high digging forces and pump flow combine for faster cycle times. The EC80D is at the head of the industry with a lifting capacity of 1,860 kg and features strong hydraulic performance and stability, as well as superior lifting and handling capabilities. A surefooted machine, the EC80D is able to negotiate gradients of 35° and can traverse the roughest terrains.
Large glasshouse improves the view
The operator has easy access into the cab via a wide opening door and has a clear view of the jobsite thanks to large glass areas and thin pillars. Ergonomically positioned, high-quality controls and monitors, plus ample storage and leg room make the cab a more comfortably spacious place for operators to spend their days.
The EC80D features easy maintenance as standard. Accessed via wide opening compartment doors, grouped, ground-level filters and greasing points are all simple and safe to get to. Checks are done quickly, further improving uptime, and a service mode is incorporated into the I-ECU color monitor to allow diagnostic checks to be conducted.
The EC80D comes attachment-ready, giving it the versatility to take on a wide variety of jobs. Three high-quality buckets of different capacities are on offer, all with Volvo teeth designed for the best possible penetration. Optional hydraulic breaker piping makes the machine even more flexible, allowing it to work in utilities, road construction or general building applications.
