Volvo Construction Equipment was recognised for ‘outstanding achievements in equipment design’ in two areas at the Excellence in Equipment Engineering Awards, run by Diesel Progress magazine.
Based on readers’ votes, Volvo won ‘Best hydraulic excavators’ for its Volvo EW160 in the Medium & Heavy Construction Equipment category, and ‘Best motor grader’ for its Volvo 930 in the Roadbuilding Equipment category.
More than 9,200 votes were cast for the awards and the winners were selected from a final list of three machines, in 13 categories. The awards were presented in a ceremony at the international construction show Bauma, in April, hosted by awards sponsor ZF, the powertrain systems supplier.
Scott Hall, executive vice president of Volvo Construction Equipment, proudly collected Volvo’s two awards on behalf of the company.“It’s always nice to win awards,” he said, “But especially when the decisions are determined by such a knowledgeable audience as the readers of Diesel Progress magazine.”
Mike Brezonick, associate publisher and editor-in-chief of Diesel Progress magazine, said the awards celebrate the efforts of the engineers which aren’t often recognized. “Our awards salute the countless hours and efforts that have gone into the design of today’s mobile equipment. We want to celebrate the singular achievement in the engineering and design of engine-powered machinery.”
This was the second Excellence in Equipment Engineering awards sponsored by ZF. The first was held at ConExpo in 2008.
