Volvo CE-backed all-electric FIA World Rallycross Championship to conclude with SEASON FINALE in Hong Kong

Volvo CE is embracing its role as an official partner to the FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX) since its switch to electric racing. The global motorsports tour has helped raise the profile for greater sustainability and highlighted the benefits of electric equipment. Now Volvo CE will have a major presence at the first-ever Asian stage of the event, which has been announced for Hong Kong this November.

A brand-new audience will soon be able to see Volvo CE’s most sustainable construction equipment alongside the world’s most exciting all-electric race event, following the announcement that the 2023 Season Finale of the FIA World Rallycross Championship will be held in Hong Kong between November 11-12, 2023. Taking place at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, the thrilling two-day event will be one of only two non-European stages for this year’s prestigious international electric race series.

Volvo CE has been the RX Championship’s Official Construction Equipment Supplier and Track Building Partner since 2022 and in Hong Kong it will again leverage its off-road expertise to provide invaluable and environmentally friendly contributions to the construction and maintenance of the circuit, while expediting on-track recoveries when necessary.

“Our partnership with FIA for the World RX Championship is global and has already been a huge success in terms of promoting sustainable change across our industry. The Hong Kong event will serve as the perfect platform to showcase the company’s growing range of electric machines in Asia, which are now offered in South Korea, Singapore, and Japan. Having its partnership with the FIA World RX Championship has helped Volvo CE demonstrate the greater potential for electric machinery in markets, I’m excited about this Hong Kong finale because it also brings the excitement of the race closer to our Asian customers and partners.” explained Doris Gong, Head of Brand Marketing & Communication Asia & China.

Arne Dirks, Managing Director, Rallycross Promoter GmbH, official championship promoter said, "We are excited to add Hong Kong as the new event in Asia. We are thrilled to be 'spreading our wings' and venturing outside of Europe again, and we are enormously excited to be adding Hong Kong to the line-up as the season finale, which truly underscores the series' World Championship credentials.”

As part of the Championship, one of the 11 racing teams – the Construction Equipment Dealer Team – is connected to Volvo CE, giving Volvo-owned or -branded dealers and its non-exclusive distributors and other partners the chance to get even closer to the action.

With the team comprising the sport’s first full-season gender-balanced driving line-up, it meets another objective of Volvo CE’s Change Starts Here campaign, which will also be using the championship to push the boundaries for safety, equality, and diversity. Sustainability is the bedrock of this initiative – and in leading the way with electric machines capable of transforming the industry while enhancing customer productivity and profitability, Volvo CE’s partnership with the FIA World RX Championship gives even greater emphasis to the urgency to accelerate the wider societal shift to a fossil-free electric future.
